Fascinating plot line with heavy description and multiple characters, but be ready for old world phrasing and no character identity for some forty pages in. This book requires the reader to be a reader.Product details

The ConfidenceMan His Masquerade Herman Melville 9781541101814 Books Reviews
You might think this would be intriguing after reading about the Duke and the Dauphin in Huckelberry Finn. But the Duke and the Dauphin were at least believeable. You dont really get a feel for any of these characters.
I can't give Herman Melville less than 2 stars, but I had a very difficult time figuring out what was going on. Nonetheless I read every word, and found some passages rather profound. It's cheap, and If you have time on your hands and nothing better to read, give it a shot.
Tedious. I love Moby Dick and have read it several times. I just put this book down about half way through and have decided not to pick it up again. Melville scholars may think differently about it..
Fraud on a riverboat. Too bad Twain didn't help out in the laughs department.
Interesting idea, but not an easy read
Ugh! Ugh! Ugh! Brilliant!
Important. Now more than ever.
